| Comments regarding your experience with this person (not required) | I have known Matt for around two years, initially as a colleague and later as a friend. I found him very easy to work and socialise with. He is friendly, approachable, hardworking and positive, and I have always found him to be respectful and easy to get along with. | Comments about dedication or engagement (not required) | During his PhD, I saw Matt put a great deal of time and effort into his research. He was very hardworking and was willing to work late or on weekends when needed. I was also impressed by the amount of work he had completed by the end of his PhD and by how clearly he presented his research at his completion seminar. From what I observed, he was genuinely engaged in his work and took his research seriously. |
| Please rate this person's willingness or desire to improve their performance | 5-excellent |
| Comments regarding willingness or desire to improve performance (not required) | Matt has always struck me as someone who enjoys learning and improving. He is very competitive, but in a positive way, where the focus is on getting better rather than showing off. I have seen this in both sports and games, as well as in his approach to his research. He is confident in his ability to learn new things and seems to genuinely enjoy the process of improving his skills. |
| What would you consider this person’s strengths and/or weaknesses? | Matt's main strengths are his communication skills, positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to get along well with different people. He is very approachable and easy to talk to, and I have always found him friendly and respectful. He is also competitive, but in a positive way. He wants to improve and learn rather than prove himself at the expense of others. |
| Is there anything else you feel would be important for us to know, and if so, please describe? | One thing I would add is that Matt is genuinely very active and has a strong interest in sport and outdoor activities. During the time I knew him in Melbourne, he regularly played tennis, ran, hiked and surfed, and he has continued to spend a lot of his free time skiing, snowboarding and hiking since returning to the States. From knowing him personally, I know that these activities are something he genuinely enjoys rather than simply a job or occasional hobby. |
